Top 10 Horror Movies On Netflix Right Now

When assessing the quality of Netflix’s selections in 2024, it immediately becomes evident that their horror library is a mixed bag. As competing services, particularly genre-specific ones like Shudder, continue to build their horror movie libraries, it becomes increasingly difficult for Netflix to present a feeling of comprehensiveness, and Netflix’s library becomes more static and reliant on Netflix Originals regularly. Here are the Top 10 Horror Movies On Netflix:

1. Apostle

Year: 2018
Runtime: 2h 10m
Director: Gareth Evans

Did you know that the director of The Raid (and its excellent sequel) has also made a fantastic Netflix Original horror film? Apostle, which was released in 2018, stars Dan Stevens (The Guest) as a guy who travels to a Welsh island in search of his lost sister and discovers a society that is not particularly hospitable. Despite being dismissed as a spoof on The Wicker Man, this is a wicked little film that’s considerably enhanced by Michael Sheen’s outstanding performance.

2. Cam

Year: 2018
Runtime: 1h 35m
Director: Daniel Goldhaber

You haven’t seen a Mindbender like this before. Madeline Brewer plays as a camgirl who will go to any length to get through the ranks of her online service. As she does so, she realizes that a competitor has effectively usurped her place, resulting in a Lynchian examination of how much one may give off to the online machine. It’s absolutely strange.

3. The Conjuring

Year: 2013
Runtime: 1h 51m
Director: James Wan

One of the most successful horror films of the 2010s introduced the world to Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga), the real paranormal investigators, and launched an entire horror film business. The first picture remains the greatest, anchored by Lili Taylor’s outstanding performance as a lady whose everyday life is flipped upside down by a ghost in her farmhouse in the early 1970s. Note: Both sequels are also available on Netflix.

4. Creep 1/2

Year: 2014
Runtime: 1h 17m
Director: Patrick Brice

In these low-budget horror films, director Patrick Brice brings out something interesting and sinister in Mark Duplass. Duplass plays a man who places an ad for a videographer (played by Brice himself in the first and Desiree Akhavan in the second) and then demonstrates the extent of his craziness. In the first film, he appears to be more of an unpleasant friend until it is discovered that he is a psychopath, and the superior second picture exposes exactly how insane he is with a better set-up to play.

5. Disappear Completely

Year: 2022
Runtime: 1h 40m
Director: Luis Javier Henaine

Disappear Completely one rock, and you’ve probably never heard of it. This Mexican horror film tells the story of Santiago, a photographer who will do anything to obtain the scoop. After one especially heinous job, he is cursed, causing him to lose each of his five senses one by one. It’s like Serpent and the Rainbow meets Nightcrawler.

6. Fear Street

Year: 2021
Runtime: 1h 47m
Director: Leigh Janiak

Remember how much this dominated the horror scene in Summer 2021? Based on R.L. Stine’s books, these three films portrayed the narrative of a curse that descended on a tiny village and unfurled over three films set in separate times — 1994, 1978, and 1666. Fans debated which one was the greatest (1994), but it’s best to view these as a single piece of neatly crafted horror entertainment. Sadie Sink and Maya Hawke, two of Stranger Things’ most brilliant stars, also contribute.

7. His House

Year: 2020
Runtime: 1h 33m
Director: Remi Weekes

What if people, rather than houses, are haunted? That is the central question in this novel about a South Sudanese immigrant couple (a superb Wunmi Mosaku and Sope Dirisu) who migrate to England and fight opponents both outside and inside their new home. This is a remarkably innovative horror film that has been completely overlooked. Do not miss it.

8. Ouija: Origin of Evil

Year: 2016
Runtime: 1h 39m
Director: Mike Flanagan

Sequels to average horror films aren’t typically good. Every rule contains an exception. The director of Gerald’s Game directed this wonderful prequel about a couple who run a fake séance business. Their lives are flipped upside down when they include an Ouija board in their performance, unintentionally unleashing a spirit that inhabits their daughter. It was a foreshadowing of the future Hill House creator’s smart and carefully constructed work.

9. The Perfection

Year: 2019
Runtime: 1h 30m
Director: Richard Shepard

Allison Williams, known for her roles in Girls and Get Out, leads in this twisting and turning narrative of a gifted teenage pianist who travels to Shanghai and meets a competition named Lizzie, played by Logan Browning. In this Netflix Original that swept the festival circuit in 2018 and 2019, a plot that keeps shifting and altering eventually comes to a startling climax.

10. The Platform

Year: 2019
Runtime: 1h 34m
Director: Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia

Sometimes all a fun horror film requires is a creative concept. This is that. This Spanish film is set in a “Vertical Self-Management Center,” a prison with dozens of floors to accommodate its inmates. A platform descends to the center of the tower to provide food. People toward the top receive far more than those at the bottom, which is a metaphor for, well, everything. This is one of the best horror movies on Netflix Original, both unpredictable and tense.
